Our Goal:
To educate, advocate, raise awareness, promote acceptance & inclusion, as well as, empowering those in our communities born with Down syndrome, so that they can become as independent as possible.
Promoting Inclusion
BLESSED by Downs mission is to serve individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Our goal is to empower each one by assisting parents with IEP in the school system, so individuals with Down syndrome can be as inclusive as possible. We advocate for adult individuals to obtain meaningful employment, should they choose to work. We also encourage and coach (for free) individuals who wish to become business owners.
Raising Awareness
BLESSED by Downs linked arms with the National Down Syndrome Society to hosted the very 1st Buddy Walk(R) in Northeast & Southeast Louisiana.
In both locations many businesses, friends & families joined together to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome at our Walks for over 10 years.
There are many misconceptions regarding Down syndrome. We strive to provide accurate, up-to-date information on Down syndrome.
Creating Change
BLESSED by Downs encourages, assists and mentors/coaches individuals with Down syndrome to become self-advocates, business owners or anything they dream of doing or becoming!
Both children and adults with Down syndrome can lead healthy and happy lives.
Our self advocates Olivia and Sean have traveled to Washington DC and other events around the US to help raise awareness, and help others understand the abilities individuals with Down syndrome possess.
Educating Others
BLESSED By Downs supports and helps educate families and communities in the state of Louisiana. BLESSED by Downs hosted the very 1st state wide Down syndrome Educational Event and Celebration.
BLESSED by Downs obtained the Proclamation from the Governor on October 11, 2016,
which states OCTOBER is
DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH
in the State of Louisiana!
In Washington DC with our self-advocates advocate for new and up-to-date laws to be passed, with success. We introduce and advocate for Federal and State Bills/Laws, which enhances the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.
